RCR response to Labour’s ‘Fit For The Future Fund’
Responding to the UK Labour Party’s announcement of a 'Fit for the Future Fund', Dr Katharine Halliday, President of the Royal College of Radiologists said:
“Patients deserve access to the best medical imaging equipment, but a lack of investment has mean that while some trusts are working with the latest kit, many are falling behind. This, along with poor supporting technology such as outdated IT systems, is jeopardising patient care. Alarmingly, over half of Clinical Radiologists do not believe they have the equipment they need to deliver a safe and effective service for patients.
“We welcome this promised investment in newer, faster equipment and supporting technology, which will help reduce the variation we see across the country. Together with plans to build the diagnostic workforce, this will give more patients the best chance of a swift diagnosis.”
