Final FRCR (Part B) Examination Board (Clinical Oncology)
The Final FRCR Part B Examination Board (CO2B) reports to the Clinical Oncology Fellowship Examination Board through the Chair who is currently Doctor Paul Hatfield. At any time there will be a minimum of 12 examiners, plus the Chair of the Final FRCR (Part A) SBA Question Panel as a co-opted member. One examiner acts as the Senior Examiner. All examiners are expected to have experience and an interest in clinical oncology training and assessment.
New examiners are appointed by Clinical Oncology Fellowship Examination Board, taking into account the recommendation of the Final FRCR (Part B) Examination Board. The Chair is appointed by the Specialty Training Board, taking into consideration the recommendation of the Clinical Oncology Fellowship Examination Board.

Terms of reference
Responsibilities
The Board is responsible for ensuring that the final examination provides an appropriate assessment of the knowledge, skills and some of the behaviours required to complete Intermediate Clinical Oncology Training as defined in the syllabus section of the Specialty Training Curriculum For Clinical Oncology. The Board ensures that the examination meets the GMC's "Standards for curricula and assessment systems".
Functions
- Reviewing the performance of individual examinations to ensure that they meet the standards expected, identifying any shortcomings and making recommendations for the future.
- Reviewing the pattern of performance of the examination over time to ensure standards are maintained and identifying areas for improvement.
- Developing the Final examination to ensure that it remains relevant to the curriculum and to clinical practice.
- Overseeing the work of the Final FRCR (Part A) SBA Question Panel, including question selection and standard setting the papers the Panel produces to ascertain pass marks.
- Writing, reviewing and editing oral questions, ensuring that they are based on the approved curriculum.
- Establishing marking schemes.
- Conducting the oral and clinical examinations.
